Barrier Methods of contraception, male and female condoms are the only method that protects you from the spread of sexually transmitted infections when used correctly and consistently.

Condoms are suitable for everyone; they don’t contain hormones and are only used when you are having sex.  

There are latex free condoms freely available from the CaSH Services for those people who have a latex allergy; there are also extra-large and extra -small condoms also available.


 

 

Male Condom


Condoms are made of very thin latex rubber they are put on the erect penis and stop sperm from entering the vagina. Condoms are the only contraception that protect against pregnancy and STIs.

Female Condom


Female condoms are made from polyurethane. When used correctly during vaginal sex, they help to protect against pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Diaphragm/Cap


Diaphragm (sometimes called a cap) is a circular dome made of thin, soft latex (rubber) or silicone. It's inserted into the vagina before sex.  A Diaphragm is easier to use than a cervical cap.
 
A cervical cap similar to a diaphragm but smaller and inserted into the vagina to fit over the cervix.
